Safety at Eneco Gasspeicher
Safety is always the number one priority when dealing with any gas as highly flammable as natural gas (hazard class 2). Eneco Gasspeicher has a comprehensive safety policy in place to eliminate any issues in the underground gas storage in the caverns. In the Netherlands and Germany, companies with large volumes of hazardous substances on hand (including natural gas) have to comply with the Seveso III Directive called the Störfall-Richtlinie). Besides the extremely strict safety and quality standards that this Directive demands, Eneco Gasspeicher is also compliant with Germany’s Bergrecht mining laws. Notification and a safety report have been filed.Audit
Eneco Gasspeicher is audited every year by the competent authority. Besides those annual audits, it has also been audited for environmental standards, fire safety and risk management. Eneco Gasspeicher passed those audits without any difficulty.Risk management
Proper awareness of the risks involved in our operations is an ongoing effort, to minimise the impact of unforeseen operational malfunctions and other issues. To help us, we use a management system that records a series of risk scenarios and controls. We have a company emergency response plan in place in case of incidents with the underground gas storage facility, however unlikely. In the event of an emergency, the emergency services and the Bergbehörde (mining authority) will be notified immediately. We will also inform other stakeholders through various channels, including this website.
